Speaker Series: Special Guest Daniel Vosovic from Season 2 of Project Runway
At the third and final show of our fashion week, on Saturday, April 28th at 3:00 PM, Academy of Art University in San Francisco presented the runway collections of the graduating class of 2006 with special guest star Daniel Vosovic from Season 2 of Project Runway. Daniel signed autographs and address the audience before the show. The University has constructed three tents reminiscent of New York Fashion Week with a 184-foot runway for top models to sashay down at 601 Brannan Street at Fifth Street. This event was open to the public.

San Francisco Fashion Show April 2007 Fashion and Jewelry Collaborative Project

For the fourth year in a row, students from the School of Fashion and the School of Fine Art Sculpture have worked together creating a jewelry segment for the San Francisco graduation fashion show. Last year this collection was also featured in the Macy’s Passport Fundraising Extravaganza fashion show in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. Macy’s Passport has raised nearly $22 million for HIV/AIDS research, care, prevntion and education programs.
This collaborative endeavor is between BFA sculpture, metalsmithing, jewelry design and MFA fashion design students.
Stephan Krasner, BFA Fine Art Sculpture, and Warot Subsrisunjai, MFA Fashion Design, collaborated on a dress with jewelry that illuminated from under the fabric.
David P. Sekoll, BFA Fine Art Sculpture, and Anne Jones, MFA Fashion Design, collaborated on a look that showcased David’s aluminum sculpture, which focused on balance and harmony through symmetry and repetition of form.
Kelsey Simmen, BFA Fine Art Sculpture, and Johanna Hatzenbuehler, MFA Fashion Design, collaborated on a simple look with Kelsey’s “sea bean” necklace. Kelsey found her “sea bean” pods washed up on the beaches of Haiti.
Melissa Christensen, BFA Fine Art Sculpture, and Daniel Emir Armosilla, MFA Fashion & Knitwear Design, worked together on two looks. Sculptor Melissa Christensen manipulated metal with hammering and hand bending to look like flowing fabric.
Basia Sienko, BFA Fine Art Sculpture, and Jaime Cole, MFA Fashion & Textile Design, used found objects such as skeleton keys, glass, leather and cork for their creation inspired by the romance of the sea.
BFA Accessory Design student Rachel Arends created what she calls “restrictive body sculpture” having spent most of her life in a back brace from scoliosis. After extensive surgery, she was left with two titanium rods in her back and having to learn to walk again. Two of her designs were showcased in a collaboration with MFA Fashion Designers, Desiree Daniels and Aurelie Martin-Chiari.

San Francisco Fashion Show April 2007 French Rabbit
Academy of Art University and eco-friendly wine producer, French Rabbit, challenged University students to create works of art, products, sculpture and fashion pieces inspired by and using the French Rabbit environmentally friendly packaging. Jean Charles Boisset, president of Boisset America, awarded scholarships to the winners of this challenge.
Dulce Chavez designed the “armor” dress.
Jackie Lee-Nakayama and Sarah Alvidrez, School of Fashion, designed the dress dubbed by fashion designer Loulou de la Falaise as the “bubble dress” and covered in the May 6th edition of San Francisco Chronicle.
Ashleigh Tucker created the “shredded” dress design that ended up in the pages of the May 17th issue of SF IS.
Rhiannon Hartig designed the orange and purple “molecule” dress.
Aisha Drake, Helen Jang and Megan Rork created the silver and green “lace” dress.
Maho Fujita and Sook-Yeong Kwon designed the “ruffle” dress.
Evening “sequined” gown by Virgil Sparks, School of Fashion, landed the cover of the May 3rd Issue of FashionLines.com.

San Francisco Fashion Show April 2007 BFA Fashion Designer Chin “Winnie” Wong

BFA Fashion Designer Chin “Winnie” Wong was born in Hong Kong, China and grew up in San Jose, CA. Winnie found inspiration in a simple inventive geometric wooden box made by artist Kay Sekimachi. She began her design process by draping paper on the dress form creating structural shapes and well-refined contours, which she kept when moving onto fabric. She also backed her fabrics with organza to keep them crisp. Winnie is a Sister City Scholarship Exchange Program winner and will spend next year studying abroad in Paris at Studio Berçot.

San Francisco Fashion Show April 2007 BFA Menswear Designer Kenneth Ning

BFA Menswear Designer Kenneth Ning created a collection inspired by the modern soccer thug. The collection is a mix of sports and leisure for a lifestyle that is carefree and all about the World Champion Italian Soccer Team, Forza Azzurri. Kenneth used the build of a well-trained soccer player for his body shapes and the cunning attitude of the player comes through his collection. The colors are loud for the rowdy fan who causes a ruckus after the game, win or lose. The leather is shiny like a patent-leather soccer ball. Coated fabrics are incorporated to repel the harshness of the environment that this soccer thug is drawn to. Kenneth is from Oakland, California. MFA Fashion and Knitwear Designer Daniel Emir Armosilla created the knitwear for Kenneth’s collection.
